Shakespeare at Hilldrop: Romeo & Juliet

On Sunday 4th September 2022 we welcomed actors from Shake-Scene Shakespeare to the centre for a unique one-off fundraising performance of Shakespeare's classic play Romeo & Juliet.

Shake-Scene Shakespeare specialise in street-style theatre and 'cue-script' performance, where the actors know their own lines but haven’t rehearsed together as a group prior to the performance, injecting each show with a spontaneous energy that appeals to audiences from all ages and walks of life, from seasoned theatre-goers to those new to Shakespeare.

The performers gave their time and considerable talent for free in order to help raise funds for our services, including our Food Hub and other community support & social activities. Affordable ticket options were made available and we were delighted to welcome a near full-house of guests to the centre on the day.

Originally planned to take place in our surrounding gardens, an uncertain weather report meant we eventually opted for the main hall to be on the safe side. Here the performers filled the space and drew our audience into the heart of the story in the distinctly non-theatrical surroundings.

We'd like to say a huge thank you, not only to Shake-scene Shakespeare for bringing this very special event to our centre, but to all of those who bought tickets and came along to enjoy the show and raised nearly £600 for our charitable activities - an amazing achievement!
